How to use Text EZ

Latest version:

2.1.1  -  June 1, 2021

Special notice: I have learned that version 2.1, released end of May, may be crashing on launch. Version 2.1.1 was quickly submitted and approved by Apple. If you have experienced this, I apologize for the failure of the app to run and hope to have a fix soon.   - David

Text EZ is designed to 'pre-create' messages for sending to one or many (up to 32*) recipients. These messages are considered 'events'.

* depends on message type and cellular carrier.

New in version 2.0 - Text EZ has added event file backup to iCloud. This does not mean syncing. Instead, when changes are made to your events, the entire list of events is backed-up to iCloud. This allows for the app to be quickly installed on a fresh phone with the list of events as they last were. You'll have no work to begin using Text EZ again. I hope you'll be happy with this convenience feature.

There may be an issue with this backup, so for a near future update, the plan is to make the event file fully synchronized in iCloud.

From the list of events, touch any square to view the details for that event. Touch the square with  +  to create a new event.

The paper airplane icon is for quick access to the message sending view. Pressing it will pre-fill the sending view with the details of your event. At this time, you may optionally add an attachment by copying the desired image above or below the message, just before pressing the white send arrow next to the message. (see Attachments below)

Eleven holidays/events are built-in for your use. Four variable holidays automatically adjust themselves to the next year's date. 'Mom' and 'Dad' are intended to be for their birthdays. (You will have to adjust those dates!) All events can be deleted or have their details modified.

Events are listed in date order, with the next event (by calendar date) being center of the top row.

Settings

Here, you have the ability to turn notifications on or off. When on, you may choose the time of day to be reminded of an event. To change the time of notification, simply touch the hour displayed on the right.

Event Detail

As the name suggests, this view is at the heart of the app.

Recipients

New in version 2.1, is a single person button. Pressing either icon begins the task of accessing your Contacts to list those that have at least one phone number. With the single person button, you will have the ability to search for a contact. From the filtered list, select the contact you want to be a recipient of this event's message. Only one contact is allowed in this mode.

Touch the names of those you wish to receive your message for the event. When you are finished, select Done. If a contact has multiple numbers, you will be presented with all of their numbers so that you may choose their cellular number.

If you've seen next to the name, you will have noticed that this recipient will be included in sending. Touch the checkmark to exclude someone when the message is sent. Touch the empty circle to add the checkmark and the person will be included when it's time to send the message.

Unfortunately, you cannot add numbers to the recipient list, yet. (This feature is being considered for an update.) If you forgot to add someone, you will need to repeat the process above to reselect all the desired recipients.

Recurring?

This switch simply tells the app what to do with an event at the end of the day. On: the event will have one year added to it's date, or for the variable holidays, to the next year's date. Turning the switch off results in adding 5 years. This has the effect of keeping the event, but moving it far to the bottom of the event list.

A thumbnail image of the chosen photo will replace the plus sign. Should you want to select a different image for attachment, touch the existing photo to begin the selection process. Only one image can be saved for attachment.

Version 2.1 brings the ability to delete a chosen attachment. When the attachment is touched, an alert will pop up asking if you want to replace or delete the image.

Event Icons

The pre-loaded holidays/events have associated emoticons.

You can personalize the icon. To change the icon, begin by touching the green box to the right of icon. You may put any single emoji or up to 2 letters to be used as the event icon. If an emoji, already exists, it must be deleted before another can be entered. The emoji keyboard does not appear by itself. It can be selected, if it has been added in Settings > General > Keyboard(s), by touching the smiley face button on the bottom row (left) of the keyboard.
